Matthew Litwin

Head of Manager Research and Managing Director

Matthew Litwin is a managing director at Greycourt and is responsible for all of Greycourt’s manager research efforts, including traditional, long-only managers and alternative asset managers including hedge funds, private equity, real estate and real assets. In this capacity, Matt manages a dedicated team of research analysts and works closely with the firm’s advisors to identify and evaluate best-in-class investors for the benefit of Greycourt clients.

Matt originally joined Greycourt’s Portland, Oregon office to run alternative asset research before being promoted to head of research. Matt’s career began on the sell-side as an equity research analyst at Goldman Sachs, having joined the firm shortly after graduation from college. He was promoted to associate analyst after a year at the firm, and had sole coverage of several retailing sectors. Following the firm’s IPO, he left with the managing director who ran his group to start Uncommon Goods, a specialty retailer that sells its products via catalog and the web. After helping to establish the operations side of that business, Matt began a career on the buy-side, initially as an analyst covering consumer and retailing companies for Andor Capital Management, a large equity long/short hedge fund based in Manhattan, and later at Viking Global Investors in Greenwich, CT, also a long/short hedge fund. After his first two years at Viking, Matt was given the responsibility of solely managing a consumer sector portfolio for Viking.

Matt graduated from Yale University with a B.A. in geology and geophysics, where he was a National Science Scholar and a varsity coxswain for the school’s heavyweight crew team. Matt serves as a trustee for the French American International School.

Gregory R. Friedman

Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director

Greg is the Chief Executive Officer of Greycourt, and also serves as a managing director and member of the management committee. Prior to joining Greycourt in 2001, he was a principal at Windermere Investment Associates, where he advised high net worth families regarding the construction of tax-efficient portfolios, the development of complex multi-generational investment policies, the evaluation and selection of traditional and alternative investment managers and ongoing tactical implementation of client portfolios. Greg has developed tax and estate planning capabilities specifically for after-tax asset allocation software, and he has created a dynamic multi-factor model for forecasting long-term asset class return assumptions. 

Prior to working with Windermere, Greg was Director of Investment Strategy at Mellon Private Capital Management where he managed $3 billion in client assets.

He is a graduate of Northwestern University and the Fuqua School of Business at Duke University. Greg sits on the Board of Directors for the I Have a Dream Foundation. The I Have a Dream Foundation (IHAD) works to ensure that all children have the opportunity to pursue higher education and to fully capitalize on their talents, aspirations, and leadership to have fulfilling careers and create a better world.

Jim Foster

Chief Investment Officer and Managing Director

Jim Foster is the Chief Investment Officer at Greycourt and also serves as a managing director and a member of the management committee. As Chief Investment Officer, Jim leads the Greycourt Investment Committee to determine the firm’s capital markets views and overall investment philosophy. In addition to his duties as chief investment officer, he advises wealthy families and institutional clients on strategic and tactical asset allocation and investment strategy as a member of Greycourt’s advisor team.

Prior to joining Greycourt, Jim was Executive Vice President and Head of Distribution for Schroders Investment Management North America in New York. Prior to Schroder’s, he was a senior vice president with Mellon Financial Corporation working across investment management and consulting. He developed and led Mellon’s Integrated Financial Solutions efforts, advising clients on asset-liability matters, asset allocation, manager structure and selection, performance analysis, and specific fiduciary and investment issues associated with concentrated securities positions. He also helped develop simulation models based on investor preferences and regulatory constraints for dynamic decision making. Prior to joining Mellon, Jim was a vice president with J.P. Morgan where he helped establish the mortgage-backed securities department and traded and made markets in mortgage-backed securities. He managed the analytics group that evaluated complex mortgage and mortgage-derivative securities. While at Morgan, he worked in Global Derivatives in the Equity Derivatives Group and was responsible for private structures created primarily for U.S. pension accounts and investment managers.

Jim has taught fixed-income securities markets, valuation, and portfolio management techniques as an Adjunct Assistant Professor of Finance in the Stern School of Business at New York University. Jim is a graduate of the University of Michigan and Carnegie-Mellon University.

David R. Lovejoy

Chief Compliance Officer and Managing Director

David Lovejoy is the Chief Compliance Officer of Greycourt, a managing director and a member of the management committee. He has extensive domestic and international corporate leadership experience in financial services and a proven record in corporate development and strategy, corporate restructuring and starting companies. Prior to joining Greycourt, David was Vice Chairman at Mellon Bank Corporation, where he was responsible for corporate development and strategy. While a member of the Office of the Chairman at Mellon, David focused on all issues relating to the corporation’s strategic direction, development and growth. He was accountable for determining and executing the organization’s M&A strategy and the performance of a wide range of the corporation’s businesses. Prior to joining Mellon, David was the Vice Chairman of Security Pacific Corporation.

David holds a BS degree and an MBA degree from the University of Southern California.

He is currently a director of First Internet Bank of Indiana, has served as a director of the Los Angeles Branch of the 12th District Federal Reserve Bank, and was a director of Phelps Dodge Corporation. David is also a past chairman of the Board of Family House.

Mark J. Laskow

Managing Director

Mark is a a managing director and a member of the management committee. Prior to joining Greycourt, Mark was Vice President and a director of The Hillman Company, where he managed investments in energy and international private equity and was involved in many aspects of the private equity program. Mark has significant experience in a variety of wealth management issues affecting wealthy families, including family office management, family dynamics, tax and estate planning, issues associated with closely held and public companies, and the design and execution of private equity strategies via direct investments and investment partnerships.

He is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania and the University of Pittsburgh School of Law.

Mark is President of the Carnegie Hero Fund Commission, Chair of the Shadyside Hospital Foundation, Vice Chair of the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center and will serve as a rotating member on the 2013 Carnegie Medal of Philanthropy selection committee.

Brian LaBore

Director

Brian LaBore is a director at Greycourt and responsible for researching traditional investment managers. Prior to joining Greycourt in 2004, Brian worked at CTC Consulting, where he spent two years as a research analyst. There he was a resource for consultants, with a particular emphasis on investment performance measurement and small cap manager research. Prior to CTC Consulting, he worked at Windermere Investment Associates as a member of the alternative asset team and at Salomon Smith Barney as an analyst in the Consulting Group division.

Brian has a BS in finance from Portland State University.

Stephanie Halpern

Senior Manager Research Analyst

Stephanie joined Greycourt in 2007. Previously, she was an Investment Performance Analyst at Cambridge Associates, LLC in Arlington, Virginia.

Prior to joining Greycourt, Stephanie received her MBA at Carnegie Mellon University’s Tepper School of Business. She received her Bachelor of Science in business and economics from Lehigh University.

Kathy Goliat, CPA

Senior Manager Research Analyst

Kathy is a senior manager research analyst with Greycourt. Prior to joining research, she was an investment analyst and client account administrator at Greycourt. Prior to joining Greycourt in 1999, she was an accounting department manager and internal auditor at Westinghouse Electric Corporation.

Kathy holds a BA and an MBA from the University of Pittsburgh.

Chad Cribbs

Senior Manager Research Analyst

Chad is a senior manager research analyst at Greycourt where he focuses on researching alternative asset managers. Chad’s responsibilities include the investment coverage of existing and potential Greycourt-approved asset managers, primarily those with a commodity focus. Chad was previously an investment analyst with Greycourt, responsible for analyzing client exposure across asset classes and implementing various investment strategies. His previous work experience also includes serving as an investment product manager for PNC Bank’s Common and Collective Trust Funds. Prior to PNC, Chad worked for six years as an equity trader for Glenview Capital Management.

Chad holds an MBA with a concentration in finance from the University of Pittsburgh’s Joseph M. Katz Graduate School of Business and a BS in finance from Pennsylvania State University.

Melissa Baltish

Manager Research Coordinator

Melissa joined Greycourt in 2010 as an Administrative Assistant and Office Manager for the Pittsburgh office, she was responsible for handling the building and office maintenance; and providing support to senior members of the firm, including the Director of Marketing and Head of Manager Research. In 2013 Melissa moved positions and became Greycourt’s Manager Research Coordinator. In this role, she is helping to establish and streamline processes and procedures for manager documentation as well as providing analytical and administrative support to the manager research team. Prior to joining Greycourt, Melissa was a sales associate at Pittsburgh Independent Auto Auction.

Melissa has a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration from Point Park University.
